Carnegie Mellon grad who founded Appaloosa Management in 1993. Famous for buying distressed debt and beaten-down assets in crises — his 2009 bank-stock bet is legendary. Owner of the NFL's Carolina Panthers and one of Wall Street's most outspoken China bulls.
